Hello
I'm Laura (the one in the middle!) and welcome to Happy Bump & Baby.
My Story
I'm mum to two boys and 3 cats and live in Colwyn Bay in north Wales, just a short drive down the road from St Asaph, where Happy Bump & Baby's classes are based.
I've been teaching classes for 8 years now. In a previous life I was a museum manager, with a special interest in education projects and family events. And then I had my eldest little boy. I did NOT prepare for labour, AT ALL. And it showed. So when I was pregnant again 2 years later I decided it was time to take control of my body and my birth, and I found Daisy Birthing classes, and the difference was huge. I had a lovely healing birth experience, and became determined to make sure that the women of north Wales have my second birth experience, and not my first. I spent quite some time training to be a Daisy teacher myself, and eventually began teaching birthing and baby classes in St Asaph and Llandudno. Since then I have never stopped training and looking for new ways to support mums and babies. 7 years later and the Daisy Foundation was no more, but I continue to work supporting women and babies in St Asaph. I asked on my social media for mums who have been to my classes before to use one word to describe how my classes made them feel, and out of dozens of responses the overwhelming response was 'happy'. And so Happy Bump & Baby was born.
I am really , really passionate about making sure that women feel empowered through their pregnancy and birthing journey, and are supported in early motherhood. I believe very strongly in the power of informed choice, gained through evidence based information, and this runs core through every service I offer.
I also know what it's like to be a new mum overwhelmed at a baby class. At Happy Bump & Baby groups are kept small so I remember everyone's name, get to know each mum and baby well, no one is overstimulated, everyone is welcome and included, and hot drinks are a given.
I know how important the wellbeing of a mum is for the wellbeing of a baby. This is why classes are always relaxed, as calm as possible, baby-led, and mother-centred. As well as 11 years of parenting my own children, I have training and qualifications in antenatal preparation, infant feeding, baby sleep, infant development, weaning, toddler-led toileting, mindfulness and meditation, forest bathing, baby massage, postnatal yoga, and baby and kids yoga and mindfulness. So you can have total confidence in how you are taught and supported.
I can't wait for you to come and join me in classes.
